'100% WORTH EVERY PENNY'

Milton Hospital

To be honest, getting a doula was my wife’s idea. I knew a doula would be helpful for her, but I didn’t realize how helpful it would be for me. Angie was like a coach for me and helped me to support and help my wife in the ways she needed. It was really helpful to have an extra person there to support my wife when I needed to eat or step away. Financially, it was 100% worth every penny and I would definitely hire Angie again. I recommend that everyone use Angie with their pregnancy.

'FANTASTIC BIRTH EXPERIENCE'

Credit Valey Hospital

“Angie was awesome! As we prepared for the birth of our son, we wanted someone with more experience to help us through the process. Thanks to Angie's help, I had a relatively quick labour and delivery.  Her experience at the Oakville hospital was also great because she knew the staff, told us what we could expect with different nurses and doctors and where everything was.  With Angie's support we had a fantastic birth experience.

'GET A DOULA'

St. Michael's Hospital

“As my wife and I were preparing for our first born, I turned to one of my best friends (who has three young children of his own) for some soon-to-be fatherly advice. The first thing that came out of his mouth was “get a doula." After interviewing with a couple of Doulas from the Hamilton and Halton region, my wife and I met with Angie and instantly connected– this was something that was very important to us because ultimately you are inviting a stranger that you have met a couple times to help bring your child into the world, and that is truly one of life’s most intimate moments.

Mount Sinai Hospital

“Angie is not only a wonderful Doula but also human being! She is warm, kind, open and non judgemental. She listens to her clients' birth wishes and becomes a participant in your birth plan and flows with the changes. She is wonderfully knowledgeable on all aspects of prenatal and postnatal care and can direct you to the right places to find answers. She even provided us with some beautiful snaps and birth story. We loved having Angie as our Doula and she will always be a part of our son’s story.

Her support during (not to mention following) the birth was also more than we could have expected or asked for. I must admit I was skeptical on whether we required a Doula in the beginning but my partner insisted it was the way to go for our first child. FULL TESTIMONIALS

“From the moment that we decided to use Angie as our Doula, she has gone above and beyond our expectations. At our first meeting, my husband and I developed an instant connection to her attentive, caring and maternal personality. It was apparent that she loved her job, and genuinely cared about the families she was supporting, as well as their new babes.

Over the course of the next couple months, Angie continued to check-in and would inquire about how the pregnancy was progressing, how the midwife appointments would go (she would always remember the dates of our appointments!), and how we were feeling as the due date was slowly approaching. She was always quick to respond, and was willing to answer any questions or concerns that we had.

During our next meeting with Angie, it was evident that she was well educated on the many aspects of birth and delivery, and had a wealth of knowledge to provide us on some of the procedures and possibilities that could possibly arise during the process. This helped to ease some of our fears as she would offer the information using a non-judgemental approach, and made it clear that she would be there to support whichever decision(s) we chose.

Unexpectedly (as babies have their own agenda) our son decided to make his arrival a month before his due date. That morning, I sent an email to update Angie on our status, which she responded to immediately. Angie quickly met us at the hospital, and provided invaluable help throughout the entire labor. Her ability to be flexible and adapt to the changing situation kept us calm and helped to make it a very positive experience. We have nothing but the utmost respect for Angie, and would love to work with her again for the birth of our second baby!” - Kim Volterman, Milton

“Angie was awesome!  As we prepared for the birth of our son, we wanted someone with more experience to help us through the process.

The initial conversation where we discussed birth wishes and talked about what to expect in different situations helped me and Don get more comfortable with our options and it was great to get to know Angie better. Angie is so warm, friendly and knowledgeable and her conversation helped us feel at ease about the upcoming birth.

From the several late-night texts "I think I might be in labour" (I wasn't....) to the follow-up visits, Angie was so responsive, encouraging and positive.  We really appreciated her advice and recommendations. It was great to have someone who was very familiar birth and babies suggest options for us to try as we navigated becoming parents.

It was fantastic to have Angie there on the day of our son's birth. When she walked into our hospital room our nurses told us we were in good hands with Angie. Don was reassured by Angie's presence as she was able to suggest different things to try throughout labour and Angie was as much a coach for him as for me. The two of them worked together to support me as Don knew what I needed and Angie knew possibilities for making labour more comfortable. Thanks to Angie's help, I had a relatively quick labour and delivery.  Her experience at the Oakville hospital was also great because she knew the staff, told us what we could expect with different nurses and doctors and where everything was. With Angie's support we had a fantastic birth experience.

We will definitely call Angie again for our next kid!” - Megan Enns, Oakville   (Photo: Cate Mathewson Photography)

“As my wife and I were preparing for our first born, I turned to one of my best friends (who has three young children of his own) for some soon-to-be fatherly advice. The first thing that came out of his mouth was “get a Doula”. At that point in time I had never heard of a Doula. In fact, I thought that a Doula was a device, not a person. My friend assured me that having a Doula was worth the cost and that he and his wife had worked with a Doula for the births of both his second and third child, and his only regret was not having one for his first.

When my wife and I began the search for the perfect Doula we were looking for someone that was motherly, supportive, educated, and easy to connect with. After interviewing with a couple of Doulas from the Hamilton and Halton region, my wife and I met with Angie and instantly connected – this was something that was very important to us because ultimately you are inviting a stranger that you have met a couple times to help bring your child into the world, and that is truly one of life’s most intimate moments.

Our baby was due to arrive on June 23rd, but he decided to make an early arrival, making his way into our lives on May 24th. Because of our baby’s early arrival, we did not get a chance to do our final meeting with Angie and were required to improvise and learn on the fly. Angie’s ability to suggest different methods of dealing with the pain was essential in helping my wife to achieve her goal of a non-medicated delivery. As for myself, I definitely wasn’t equipped or prepared to support my wife in the way she needed and deserved. Angie walked us both through every step of the process, bringing a sense of calmness that otherwise would not have been present. We welcomed a healthy baby boy, and although we never had a chance to finalize our ideal birth scenario, we wouldn’t change a thing about the entire experience and are already hoping that Angie will be available if/when we welcome baby #2 into the family.” - Jason Thomas, Milton

“Since my husband and I are both MDs, we did not initially contemplate using doula services for the birth of our first baby. This was until a family member told me about her very positive experience with Angie Stanley, and urged us to reconsider.

Indeed, my husband and I were extremely happy with the doula services that Angie provided. She was knowledgeable, but not pushy, and did her utmost to ensure that we had the type of birth that we had envisioned. She labored with me through the night, using techniques that made the contractions bearable. This also allowed my husband to get some rest for the ensuing days.  She was with us every step of the way, providing support and gentle advice.

Angie’s postpartum visits were also very valuable. Among other things, she was able to help me troubleshoot breastfeeding and showed me her technique for bathing a baby. Angie had a lot of practical advice, which she was happy to dispense.

Angie always responded to my communications promptly. She was professional, approachable, and kind throughout.

"Even before I knew I was pregnant, I knew I wanted Angie by my side when having a baby. She is one of the most caring, compassionate, considerate person I know and I knew she would ease any worries or fears I had about child birth. Angie was full of knowledge and wisdom, having the training of child birth and having 4 children of her own. She was also there to answer any question I had and gave me peace of mind when I needed it. Angie provided us with information that I didn't even know I needed to know and had connections for different needs before and after birth. Angie stayed with me for 18 hours when labour started and helped me feel as comfortable as I could at home and then in the hospital. This being my first child, neither my husband nor I knew what to expect or what steps to take. I didn't have to worry though, because Angie was by my side, taking me step by step and giving me peace of mind, so I could focus on the experience and enjoying the birth of our daughter. She was also there to take pictures and document the birth, so my husband and I could be in the moment and focus on our new little bundle. I was healthier before, during and after because of the information Angie shared with me and I know I had a great experience because of her.

I would highly recommend a doula for any birth and I would highly recommend Angie to be that doula. I will definitely be asking her to be by my side for our next child and I have total trust and confidence that she'll help get us through the next birth as well, whatever it may throw at us." - Elaine Neilson, Milton

"Don't have a baby without a good Doula!!!

My only Doula experience in my life was with Angie. So I cannot say if she is the best or not, but I can say with 100% confidence that the whole baby experience for us would have been much more stressful had we done it without the support of Angie.  As a professional Doula, Angie offered us years of experience and knowledge with regards to pregnancy, birth and infant care. She always offered us multiple perspectives and options to read about and consider in addition to real world experiences to help us make decisions that were right for our situation.

From a male perspective, I felt pretty useless most of the time, wanting to help my wife with the various things she had to endure during pregnancy, labour, birth and infant care. Having Angie in my corner to make sure I wasn't missing opportunities to be helpful was amazing.

Our labour and delivery had 2 complications that would have forced us away from our birth plan. Angie offered suggestions in both cases that the mid-wife would not have employed otherwise and in both cases we were able to stay within the wishes of our birth plan.  Because Angie has so much experience she can offer options that Mid-Wives and OBs would not be trained to offer or consider.

I would encourage everyone who is having a baby to bite the bullet and hire a Doula as it will reduce your stress and give you confidence that you are making the right decisions for yourself and your family." - Robert May, Milton

"We honestly cannot imagine going through this experience without Angie by our side. She provided us with a wealth of expertise and education in addition to emotional support and peace of mind. Her support during (not to mention following) the birth was also more than we could have expected or asked for. She was always there for us and was quick to respond to any and all questions or concerns (regardless how ridiculous) we had pre and post baby.

I must admit I was skeptical on whether we required a Doula in the beginning but my partner insisted it was the way to go for our first child. "I’m not quite sure how to put into words all that we have to thank Angie for. My husband and I are so incredibly grateful for all that she has done to help and support us. As a pelvic health physiotherapist, I have known that the research clearly shows that a doula helps reduce intervention in births and helps women feel more supported.  I knew I would get a doula, but Angie went above and beyond any of my expectations.

From the start, she was very open-minded, reassuring, and encouraging. She always made sure we were well-informed and confident in making the choice that felt most right for us. She did not pressure us to choose a certain option and we never felt judged for our choices.

Knowing that I could text her with any of my random concerns or questions was very reassuring.  Her loving check-ins were always uplifting 😊 She had so many little tips & tricks for pregnancy and life with baby that have made a big difference and made this whole experience easier.

Most of all, her quiet and calming presence at our son’s birth is something that we are forever thankful for. She gave my husband confidence, encouragement, and information when he needed it. The warm candles, heating pack and position ideas helped me feel SO much better during labour.  We cannot thank her enough for her warm heart and reassuring voice; her presence and her gentle touch. She made me and my husband feel loved, supported and respected through my birth. She helped make what could have been a scary experience into something empowering." - Robyn Synnott, Burlington
